Wikiside - Wikipedia tracker

This little site, Wikiside, shows some key statistics for Wikipedia. If you’ve ever watched the recent changes page on Wikipedia, you’ll be amazed to see the rate of add/edits taking place. I’d estimated it in the past at one change per second, and now, thanks to Wikiside, we know that it’s even greater. Wikiside reports that Wikipedia is being updated 4,223 times per hour and further, that there are 110 new users being added per hour. That’s simply amazing.
Alexa reports that in the past three months, Wikipedia is the 32nd worlds most popular site. And today, it’s the 20th! That information would be useful at Wikiside also, along with some graphs <hint hint>. Apparently, the Seigenthaler issue hasn’t slowed its growth at all — in fact its probably had the opposite effect. What I’d like to know is where this ends? Will we see 10 edits per second and 1,000 new users per hour? And then 10X that again? And how does the mix of editors and readers shift over time? Lastly, with the goal of gathering all information that is “encyclopedic” in nature, how far along is the project compared with it’s ultimate goal? Watching Wikipedia statistics may give us some clues as to nature and growth of Web 2.0 in general.
